<p class="wp-block-paragraph">U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner reported having talks with Ukrainian officials in Kyiv on Sunday aimed at addressing the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Witkoff described the discussions as "substantive" and "important" during a conversation with reporters. This visit marks their first trip to Kyiv since the onset of the conflict. They met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who expressed gratitude for their visit.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Zelensky stated, "We had a good conversation – several rounds already – and we will continue talking today. The main thing is to achieve peace for Ukraine – a dignified, reliable, and lasting peace. We are directing all our efforts toward this."</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">U.S. and Ukrainian officials also engaged in discussions with representatives from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Prior to their visit to Kyiv, Witkoff and Kushner held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday. The envoys have made multiple trips to Moscow in an effort to facilitate peace negotiations.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The discussions with Putin did not yield significant breakthroughs, although the Kremlin characterized them as constructive and useful.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Trump administration has expressed a commitment to ending the Russia-Ukraine war, which has persisted for over four and a half years since Russian forces invaded Ukrainian territory. Putin announced a three-day pause in fighting during the meetings with the U.S. envoys. Witkoff serves as the special envoy to the Middle East, while Kushner is the special envoy for peace and the president’s son-in-law.</p>
