Ground Stop Issued at Miami International Airport Following Cargo Plane Incident

A ground stop has been issued at Miami International Airport after a Boeing 767 cargo plane overran the runway and collided with multiple vehicles. Video shows the Prime Air 767 at the end of Runway 30, with thick black smoke rising as the plane caught fire. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the incident near the 2100 block of Northwest 42nd Avenue, where fire crews are working to extinguish the flames. Officials reported that multiple individuals are being assessed on the scene, but the exact number is unclear. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office stated that Northwest 67th Avenue between NW 25th Street and 36th Street is currently closed, leading to potential delays for drivers who are advised to seek alternate routes. The airplane crossed the perimeter road, Northwest 67th Avenue, and came to a stop in a field. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), 21 Air Flight 7598 overran the runway after landing at Miami International Airport around 2 p.m. local time on Sunday, September 6. The Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft had departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. All departures from the airport have been grounded as of 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Details regarding the cause of the incident remain limited. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed that an Amazon Air plane operated by 21 Air experienced an incident while attempting to land at Miami International Airport. They stated, "This is a fast-moving situation and we’re still gathering details. We’re working closely with local authorities and officials to understand exactly what happened. Right now, our absolute priority is the safety, well-being, and care of everyone involved. We’re doing everything we can to support those affected."
