Patrick Clancy was observed taking an hours-long walk in New York City on Sunday, just days after a mistrial was declared in the murder case of his ex-wife, Lindsay Clancy. The mistrial was announced on Friday in Massachusetts after a lone juror did not agree with the majority. Clancy walked through Manhattan in casual attire, including gym shorts and a T-shirt, while wearing dark sunglasses.
Throughout Lindsay Clancy's trial, Patrick Clancy was seen multiple times, including with his wife, who was not present during his recent walk. He also used a Citibike and looked at new apartments during the trial. Although he testified at the trial, he was rarely seen in the Massachusetts courthouse.
Lindsay Clancy's case was declared a mistrial after the jury, which deliberated for over 37 hours over five weeks, was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. Eleven jurors agreed on a decision, but one juror held out, leading to the mistrial. Lindsay Clancy admitted to killing her three children in 2023 but claimed she was overmedicated and suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time.
Prosecutors now have options to retry Lindsay on reduced charges or seek a verdict from a judge instead of a jury. The jury had sent four notes to the judge indicating their inability to reach a verdict. The last note expressed their heavy heart over the situation.
The mistrial was announced by Judge William Sullivan shortly before 2:30 PM ET on Friday, after an emergency appeal by Lindsay's attorney, Kevin Reddington, was denied. Reddington claimed that the holdout juror was biased against individuals with mental disabilities.
Patrick Clancy's attorney released a statement expressing gratitude towards the court and jurors for their efforts, noting the profound loss Clancy has experienced and the pain of potentially reliving the tragedy through another trial. Patrick Clancy has relocated to a Midtown Manhattan high-rise with his new wife, a fertility specialist, after moving from Massachusetts in May 2023, four months following the deaths of his children.
