Geraldo Perdomo exits game after being hit by line drive

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo was hit in the head by a line drive during a game against the Houston Astros on Sunday. The incident occurred in the top of the third inning with the game tied at 1-1. Ketel Marte hit a pitch from Peter Lambert at 93 mph, causing Perdomo to fall to the ground between first and second base while holding his head. Trainers and coaches quickly attended to him. Perdomo was ruled out as he could not reach second base due to the injury. Shortly after, Nolan Arenado hit a two-run home run, bringing the score to 3-1. The Diamondbacks won the game 3-2 without Perdomo, who did not return for the remainder of the contest. Perdomo was able to walk off the field unaided and appears to have avoided a serious injury. Diamondbacks manager Tony Lovullo stated that Perdomo is not in the concussion protocol and is in the observation stages, referring to the injury as a head contusion. Lovullo expressed optimism that Perdomo could return to the lineup as soon as Monday. Perdomo has been a significant contributor to the team, with a career-high 100 RBIs last year, although he is currently batting .252 this season. The Diamondbacks, with a record of 76-68, are competing for the last wild-card spot, leading the San Diego Padres by half a game. They will play against the Kansas City Royals on Monday in the first game of a three-game series.
