Fox News Host Issues Ultimatum Regarding Mitch McConnell's Absence

The 84-year-old senator from Kentucky has been absent for 85 days following a fall at his home that left him briefly unconscious.</p><p>His prolonged absence has drawn increasing scrutiny, with conservative commentators expressing impatience. Fox News contributor Joe Concha stated, "If he does not come back in September, he needs to step down." He emphasized the lack of direct communication from McConnell, saying, "I don’t want to see, you know, proof-of-life photos from a hospital bed anymore. He needs to get in front of a microphone and prove that he can do this job. And if he can’t, he needs to step aside. His absence is also seen as a risk to the GOP's slim Senate majority.</p><p>To address concerns, McConnell's team released two photographs showing him in a hospital chair with his wife, Elaine Chao. However, co-host Tomi Lahren remarked that this was insufficient, stating, "I don’t know if that’s quite fair to the American people though that unelected staffers are running the show for Senator Mitch McConnell. I think you’ve gotta play it fair here."</p><p>McConnell has missed approximately 60 votes in Congress since his hospitalization, covering various issues including a war powers resolution and housing policies.</p><p>His chief of staff, Terry Carmack, who earns an annual salary of $226,850, has been seen at McConnell's Washington, D.C. townhouse but has not provided updates on the senator's condition. Other staff members have also declined to comment when approached.</p><p>In early August, McConnell stated he would not return to active service soon, indicating he would maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home and continue to engage with his staff on Senate business.</p><p>Kentucky Republican Rep. James Comer expressed hope to see McConnell back in the Senate soon, stating, "I certainly hope to see him in the Senate in the next few weeks. And if he’s not, there’ll be a reason why and the senator will be able [to] explain that to the American people. But hopefully he’ll [be] back in two weeks."</p><p>He noted that he had not spoken with McConnell since the hospitalization.</p>
