'Widow's Bay' Wins 8 Emmys at Early Ceremony, 'The Pitt' Secures 4 Awards

LOS ANGELES (AP) — 'Widow's Bay' won eight early Emmys for its debut season on Sunday at a ceremony held eight days before the main awards show. 'The Pitt' received four awards in its second year, and Rob Reiner was awarded a posthumous acting Emmy nearly nine months after his death. 'DTF St. Louis' won six awards in the limited series categories, with co-stars David Harbour and Linda Cardellini both becoming first-time Emmy winners. 'Widow's Bay,' an Apple TV horror comedy starring Matthew Rhys as a mayor in a small New England town, won in categories including cinematography, sound, music, and production design. Betty Gilpin won best guest actress in a comedy for her role on the show and delivered a rapid-fire comic poem during her acceptance speech. HBO Max's 'The Pitt,' which was the year's top nominee with 25 nominations, won in categories including prosthetic makeup and best guest actor in a drama for 73-year-old first-time nominee Ernest Harden Jr. Harden expressed his joy backstage, stating, 'I am just on cloud 25.' Singer-songwriter Andrew Bird and Gavin Brivik won for original music and lyrics for a song about a character in 'The Pitt.' The Television Academy presented over 100 primetime Emmys, with most being awarded during the weekend's ceremonies, previously known as the Creative Arts Emmys. The awards primarily recognize behind-the-scenes crew members but also include guest-acting awards. The weekend's ceremonies featured several notable wins, including best supporting actor in a limited series for Harbour and best supporting actress in a limited series for Cardellini. A moment of tribute was held for Reiner, who won best guest actor in a comedy for his work on 'The Bear.' Reiner was killed in December, and his son has been charged with the murders. The edited ceremonies will air on Sept. 12 on FXX and stream on Hulu the following day, while the main ceremony will be held on Sept. 14, hosted by Mariska Hargitay. Both 'Widow's Bay' and 'The Pitt' are eligible for six additional Emmys on the final night. 'Pluribus,' another Apple TV show, won four awards, while Shailene Woodley won best guest actress in a drama for her role on 'Paradise.' 'Spider-Noir,' a series canceled last week, won five Emmys. Hargitay received two Emmys for her documentary about her mother, Jayne Mansfield, and Bad Bunny won his first Emmy for his Super Bowl halftime show.
