California healthcare provider lays off 738 employees

A Los Angeles-based healthcare provider, 24 Hour Home Care, announced it is laying off 738 employees. The company, which provides daily living and personal care support for veterans and individuals with disabilities, stated that the layoffs will take effect on September 15. The decision to cut jobs is attributed to Health Net's plan to eliminate Personal Care and Homemaker Services (PCHS) by January 1, 2027. 24 Hour Home Care expressed disappointment over Health Net's decision, acknowledging the uncertainty it creates for affected members, caregivers, and their families. This announcement follows similar job cuts in California's healthcare sector, including Stanford Health Care, which filed notices in late August to lay off 95 employees, and John Muir Health, which announced plans on September 1 to cut 75 positions across multiple locations. Earlier in March, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health closed clinical services at seven locations due to a $50 million funding deficit, and UC Irvine Health cut 150 positions as part of a systemwide restructuring.
