Egyptian TV Host Sentenced to Death in Drug Trafficking Case

<p>On September 8, 2026, Egyptian TV host Sarah Khalifa was sentenced to death by hanging in a significant drug trafficking case. She is among 12 defendants accused of forming an organized criminal group involved in the manufacture and trafficking of synthetic drugs.</p><p>According to state-backed media Ahram Online, the group was charged with importing materials used to produce narcotics. Capital punishment in Egypt is executed by hanging for civilian convictions.</p><p>Khalifa, a media personality and beauty clinic owner, has appeared on various Egyptian television channels and previously hosted the crime show "Mission Impossible." She was reportedly arrested in Cairo in April 2025 as part of the investigation.</p><p>The case involved a total of 28 defendants, with 12 sentenced to death, nine receiving life sentences, and seven acquitted of all charges. The group was accused of operating a production and distribution network for synthetic drugs, with members assigned specific roles, including importing raw materials and distributing the drugs.</p><p>During the investigation, authorities seized more than 750 kilograms (approximately 1,653 pounds) of synthetic narcotics and raw materials. The prosecution's case against Khalifa and the other defendants was supported by statements from 20 witnesses and various forms of technical and digital evidence, including messages, photographs, and videos.</p><p>Additionally, authorities implemented precautionary measures on the defendants' assets and bank accounts and ordered those in custody to remain detained, according to Ahram Online.</p>
