Five Victims Identified in Amazon Cargo Jet Crash at Miami International Airport

<p>Authorities in Miami identified the five individuals who died when an Amazon cargo plane overran a runway while landing at Miami International Airport on Sunday, crashing into vehicles and catching fire.</p><p>Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz released the names of the victims during a news conference on Tuesday. The victims were identified as Rolando Aleman Leon, 55; Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53; Julio C. Pineda, 75; Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53; and 47-year-old Javierkys Reyes Quevedo.</p><p>Five others sustained injuries, with three remaining hospitalized, two of whom are in critical condition. The two pilots were treated and released, according to the sheriff.</p><p>Amazon Air Flight 7598 was traveling from San Juan, Puerto Rico, on its third flight of the day when it attempted to land at Miami International Airport.</p><p>The jet overshot the runway by at least 1,300 feet beyond the paved surface and collided with multiple vehicles, including a 2012 white Ford Econoline van carrying passengers, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy stated during a press conference on Monday.</p><p>The aircraft then crashed through the airport perimeter and struck a civilian vehicle, a Toyota Corolla Cross LE. The plane continued into the grass and impacted another fence line, which separated an area where Tesla robotaxis were stationed, Homendy noted.</p><p>All the victims were inside the vehicles, she confirmed.</p><p>Homicide detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office are investigating the deaths, Cordero-Stutz added.</p>
