The steel beam is set to be part of a procession in New York on September 10, retracing the steps of fallen firefighter Stephen Siller. Trump's attendance marked the beginning of a week of commemorations leading up to several events on September 11, including one at the Pentagon. During his remarks, Trump stated, "This battered piece of steel here today on the Ellipse is a reminder that America is blessed with a strength no fire can consume, no evil can conquer and no terror can destroy." He reflected on the significance of the September 11 attacks, noting they are a pivotal moment in history. Trump also made political remarks, warning against a "communistic way," referring to his critiques of Democrats. He paid tribute to two individuals who died in the attacks: firefighter Jeffrey Palazzo and equities trader Welles Crowther, known as the "man in the red bandanna." Trump announced that the U.S. Coast Guard will commission a new cutter in honor of Palazzo and awarded Crowther the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which was accepted by his family.
