Sen. John Fetterman Responds to Criticism Over Leaked Texts with Support from Sen. Dave McCormick

<p>Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., is facing criticism due to leaked texts with his staff in which he appeared to dismiss meetings with a children’s hospital and paralyzed veterans. Fetterman has characterized the reports as "smears" and received support from his Republican colleague, Sen. Dave McCormick.</p><p>Fetterman addressed the situation following a report based on leaked text messages that suggested he was neglecting his responsibilities as a senator, including meetings with constituents.</p><p>In a statement to CNN, Fetterman claimed that "disgruntled" staffers fabricated the story, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, to damage his reputation.</p><p>Fetterman stated, "Per usual — lies, half-truths, innuendos, smears and anonymous." He added, "No matter how many smears or stories, I’m proud to continue to deliver for Pennsylvania."</p><p>The report indicated that Fetterman was more focused on media appearances, such as discussing Israel on Fox News, rather than engaging with constituents, including a group of paralyzed veterans. It also mentioned that he declined to attend a funeral for slain police officers due to time constraints.</p><p>While some Democratic members of the Pennsylvania delegation expressed anger towards Fetterman, McCormick defended him, stating, "These stories are the latest example of outrageously disloyal staff and forces on the Left using anonymous leaks to cancel my friend John Fetterman. They hate that he is an independent thinker who refuses to fall into line so they want to silence him."</p><p>Fetterman and McCormick have a unique relationship in Congress, being one of three Senate pairs from a purple state. Fetterman has pledged not to support an opponent if McCormick runs for re-election in 2030. Fetterman said, "Well, I would absolutely never move against my friend."</p><p>They also initiated a joint fundraising effort in July called Common Ground PA, according to federal financial filings.</p><p>Additionally, the two senators spent Labor Day together, touring Bell & Evans, a chicken processing company in Pennsylvania, as noted in a post from McCormick.</p><p>McCormick stated, "He and I will continue to work together to deliver for Pennsylvania by saving jobs at US Steel, passing a new law to make housing more affordable, securing $600 million to replace the Delaware River Bridge, and delivering critical funding to protect Presque Isle State Park."</p><p>Despite this support, members of the Pennsylvania delegation, including the vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, are reportedly working towards ousting Fetterman.</p><p>Rep. Chris Deluzio, D-Pa., criticized Fetterman’s actions as "pathetic" and asserted that "this man has no sense of duty."</p><p>It remains uncertain whether Fetterman will seek re-election in 2028. Deluzio remarked, "He is not up for the high office he was elected to — and we in Pennsylvania will do something about it in 2028."</p>
