Casey Affleck Reveals Deaths of Both Parents Within Months

Their mother, Chris Anne Affleck, died in June at the age of 83 after battling pancreatic cancer, as confirmed by the family last month. Casey Affleck, 51, has now revealed that their father, Timothy Affleck, also died this year.</p><p>Casey Affleck mentioned during a press conference at the Venice Film Festival that his latest film, <i>Gothic</i>, was one he had hoped to complete before their deaths. He stated, “It’s dedicated to my parents because I lost both my mom and my dad this year, and they’re very important to me and I really wanted to show this movie to them, and I didn’t get to. I think they would have liked it.”</p><p>Timothy Affleck was an aspiring playwright and performed at the Theater Company of Boston, alongside notable actors such as Dustin Hoffman and Robert Duvall, according to the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2000/09/10/movies/film-ben-affleck-shocker-i-bargained-with-devil-for-fame.html" rel="">New York Times</a>.</p><p>Ben Affleck, 54, previously shared that their father struggled with alcoholism, a challenge he has openly discussed in his own life. In 2020, Ben Affleck told <a href="https://people.com/movies/ben-affleck-on-his-fathers-30-years-of-sobriety-i-have-tremendous-respect-for-what-that-takes/" rel="" target="_self" title="https://people.com/movies/ben-affleck-on-his-fathers-30-years-of-sobriety-i-have-tremendous-respect-for-what-that-takes/">People</a> that Timothy had been sober for 30 years, referring to it as “the principal lesson and legacy of his life.”</p><p>Chris Affleck was given a prognosis of six months to live, as noted in her <a href="https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/bostonglobe/name/christopher-affleck-obituary?id=62030388" rel="">obituary</a>, and she managed to live long enough to see her grandson graduate, passing away just two days after the May 31 ceremony. She attended Harvard University and taught public school for 35 years before retiring in 2008.</p><p>Chris and Timothy Affleck divorced when Casey and Ben were approximately 11 or 12 years old. She remained a significant presence in her sons’ lives as they achieved success in Hollywood, attending the 1998 Academy Awards with Ben and Matt Damon when <i>Good Will Hunting</i> won Best Original Screenplay.
