George W. Bush Hosts 25th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Event in Dallas

<p>DALLAS — George W. Bush, who was president during the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, is hosting a remembrance event in Dallas, Texas, to mark the 25th anniversary of the attacks. The event, titled "A Legacy of Service: America at the 25th Anniversary of 9/11," is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday evening at the George W. Bush Presidential Center.</p><p>The program will include a conversation between former President Bush and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who will discuss the legacy and meaning of 9/11, its impact on the country, and the ongoing call to serve. Additionally, a moderated discussion will feature General Dan Caine, the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and former Deputy National Security Advisor J.D. Crouch, who served under Bush from 2005 to 2007.</p><p>Featured guests include Melissa Stockwell, a two-time Paralympic triathlete and Army veteran who received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star after losing her leg in Iraq, and Jared Lyons, a Navy veteran and CEO of Student Veterans of America.</p><p>The event's webpage states that these discussions will provide a thoughtful reflection on a significant moment in American history and the commitment to service that continues to strengthen the nation.</p><p>As part of the 25th anniversary commemoration, Bush created 16 works of art that reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and resilience stemming from the attacks. He first used the term "war on terrorism" on September 16, 2001, and officially declared a campaign during a joint address to Congress on September 20, 2001, which initiated the 20-year war on terror. After serving a second term, he retired to Texas with his wife Laura, where they have maintained a low profile.</p>
