<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/democrats/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Democrats</a> are concentrating on two key messaging strategies for the upcoming midterm elections: <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/affordability/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">affordability</a> and <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/corruption/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">corruption</a>.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rep. Sam Liccardo (D-CA) stated, “Messaging and our legislative priorities should be the same. Help families pay bills, address the affordability crisis, healthcare, and the corruption, but it needs to be in that order.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rep. Johnny Olszewski (D-MD) remarked to the <em>Washington Examiner</em> that “Donald Trump promised to lower costs on day one,” but he believes that “Republicans in Congress have failed miserably.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Olszewski added, “For me it’s rolling back things that are costing families thousands of dollars. The war in Iran is costing families thousands of dollars, illegal tariffs are costing families thousands of dollars, rolling back the repeal of the healthcare tax credit, making sure we are creating pathways to work, there are lots of easy wins early on Democrats will deliver.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In a series of interviews with the <em>Washington Examiner</em>, House Democrats highlighted similar legislative priorities with less than two months until the <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/2026-election/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">2026 elections</a>. While they did not specify legislation, their agenda includes restoring Obamacare tax credits, limiting the White House’s authority to impose tariffs, cutting funding for the Iran war, and reversing President Donald Trump’s tax cuts. Without veto-proof majorities in both chambers, much of this agenda may face challenges, especially with Trump remaining in office until January 2029. Democrats are emphasizing congressional oversight backed by subpoena power as one of the few areas where they can act independently of Trump.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA) commented, “I have said time and again this is the most corrupt administration in the history of the country, the president making billions of dollars on crypto and other business directly tied to his power.” He added, “We’re going to end the corruption, stand up to it, or the corruption will be the end of us.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">House Oversight Committee ranking member Robert Garcia (D-CA) is preparing investigations into Trump and his family should Democrats win the majority, focusing on the Trump family’s connections with foreign governments and the crypto industry, as well as the Justice Department’s handling of the Epstein files and immigration enforcement tactics.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While Democrats emphasize affordability, Republicans are also highlighting similar themes. GOP lawmakers reference the tax cuts extended during Trump’s presidency and policies such as no taxes on tips.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Democrats are positioning themselves favorably this election cycle, but redistricting has reduced the number of competitive districts for both parties. Additionally, the party faces ideological divisions between its establishment and more progressive factions, which complicates efforts to present a unified message.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This was evident in August when Abdul el Sayed’s victory in Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary highlighted the influence of Hasan Piker, a socialist Twitch streamer who campaigned for el Sayed despite his controversial comments, including a statement that America “deserved 9/11.” Piker’s impact on Democrats has become a focal point for the GOP’s strategy to differentiate themselves from Democrats this election cycle.</p>
