<p class="wp-block-paragraph">President <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/donald-trump/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Donald Trump</a> stated that <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/gas-prices/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">gas prices</a> will decrease to $2 per gallon following the <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/2026-election/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">November midterm elections</a>.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Right after the election, oil prices are going to be tumbling downward,” Trump told reporters on Wednesday, prior to departing for the <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/republican-national-committee/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Republican National Committee</a> convention in <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/dallas/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Dallas</a>. “They’re going to be tumbling down, and we’ll get them down. I think for gasoline, we’ll get them below $2 a gallon.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Gas prices reached a record high over the Labor Day weekend, with the national average for a gallon of gas at $4.15 on Monday, according to AAA. Just two days later, the average price increased to $4.22 per gallon. However, Trump indicated that relief might not come immediately.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“I think it’s going to take a little bit longer than the midterm,” Trump said regarding gas prices.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Since the onset of the <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/iran/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Iran</a> war and Tehran's control over the Strait of Hormuz, oil and gas prices have risen significantly, impacting the Republican Party's standing as they approach the midterm elections. Voter frustration over the cost of living is a concern for Republicans aiming to maintain control of the House and Senate.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Trump suggested that the end of the war could lead to a decline in gas prices. </p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“I think the war is going to end immediately after the election,” he said. “I think the war will end immediately after the election because they can’t hold out any longer.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Trump is scheduled to speak at the convention on Wednesday and Thursday as the GOP seeks to engage voters ahead of the elections. Vice President <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/jd-vance/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">JD Vance</a> is also expected to deliver a keynote speech on Wednesday evening.</p>
