HSI agent indicted on multiple charges of sexual abuse

<p>A special agent with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Kent Blacklidge, 43, has been indicted on charges including rape, incest, and multiple counts of child sexual abuse involving a juvenile girl in Alabama, according to authorities.</p><p>A Baldwin County grand jury indicted Blacklidge on charges of first-degree rape, second-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, second-degree sodomy, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, and incest, as reported by the Spanish Fort Police Department.</p><p>Investigators began the case on January 11 after receiving a report alleging sexual abuse of a juvenile female.</p><p>Blacklidge was placed on administrative leave shortly after the investigation commenced, authorities stated.</p><p>Spanish Fort Police Chief John Barber commented on the case, stating, "It takes an unbelievable amount of courage and strength for a victim of these types of crimes to come forward. And I commend our victim for having that resolve."</p><p>Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall is prosecuting the case after the Baldwin County District Attorney's Office recused itself due to Blacklidge being a witness in other cases they handle.</p><p>Marshall expressed concern over the allegations, noting that Blacklidge's role with HSI involved investigating child exploitation cases and educating the public about crimes against children. "He was directly involved in child exploitation cases," Marshall said. "It's why it is so profoundly disappointing and frankly disgusting to stand here today and tell you that we've charged him with facts consistent with what his professional responsibility was."</p><p>Authorities confirmed there is one known juvenile victim, with no indication of additional victims. Barber declined to provide further details due to the ongoing investigation.</p><p>Blacklidge turned himself in on September 5 after investigators contacted his attorney. If he posts bond, he will be subject to electronic monitoring and home confinement, and will be prohibited from contacting the alleged victim or anyone younger than 18.</p><p>A spokesperson for Homeland Security Investigations declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.</p>
