DALLAS — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) warned on Wednesday that a perceived "red-green" alliance between Islamists and communists is taking over the Democratic Party. Cruz made these remarks while addressing the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, stating that the 2026 midterm elections represent a "rendezvous with destiny" for the United States.
Cruz stated, "We are witnessing a new and dangerous red-green alliance: communists and Islamists coming together and sweeping over the Democrat Party. They are united because they share the same enemies. They hate Christians. They hate Jews. They hate capitalism. They hate the Constitution, and they hate America."
He specifically mentioned New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani as an example of this alliance. Cruz's comments coincided with the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. He questioned, "And on 9/11, could anyone have imagined that Comrade Mondami would be the mayor of New York?" He further linked various incidents of violence and political tensions to this perceived alliance.
Cruz also highlighted other progressive figures, including streamer Hassan Piker, Michigan Senate nominee Abdul el Sayed, and Texas Senate nominee James Talarico, as indicators of the Democratic Party's challenges. He remarked, "A simple truth: When people tell you who they are, believe them," referencing statements made by these individuals regarding their political beliefs.
Cruz noted that socialists and progressives have successfully unseated several Democratic incumbents during the current election cycle’s primary season. He acknowledged, "Now understand, not every Democrat in the House and Senate believes this, but they are all afraid of these radicals because that’s where the money and the energy and the young people are in the Democrat Party."
