Donald Trump Jr. acknowledges Russian oligarch hosted wedding celebration

ProPublica reported that Kremlev covered hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses for the event, which included a fireworks display. Bettina Trump stated on Instagram that Kremlev's hosting was a generous gift from a friend. President Donald Trump, who did not attend the wedding, commented that it was 'not a big deal' and claimed he was unaware of Kremlev. House Oversight Committee member Robert Garcia expressed concern over Kremlev's financial involvement, questioning what he received in return. Bettina Trump clarified that the celebration was planned in advance and was not intended as a wedding event. Kremlev, president of the International Boxing Association, received an Order of Friendship medal from Putin in April for his contributions to international sport. Trump Jr. has previously faced scrutiny regarding meetings with individuals linked to the Kremlin, including a 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer that was investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller. Mueller did not bring charges related to that meeting, as he could not prove intent to violate campaign finance laws. Trump Jr.'s attorney stated that the meeting was not improper.
