Voters Express Skepticism Over Trump's $5,000 Check Proposal

<p>Voters have expressed skepticism regarding President Donald Trump's proposal to send eligible Americans $5,000 dividend checks if Republicans maintain their majorities in the House and Senate during the midterm elections. The proposal was introduced at the Republican National Committee's midterm convention in Dallas last week.</p><p>The proposal has sparked a national debate about its financial feasibility and the likelihood of its implementation. Many voters doubt the proposal's viability, citing concerns over Congress, the national debt, and previous unfulfilled promises.</p><p>William, a voter, described the proposal as a publicity stunt, stating, "I don't think that it's ever gonna happen." He noted that the proposal would require congressional approval, which he believes is unlikely due to the upcoming midterm elections.</p><p>Another voter, Daniel from Maryland, questioned the federal government's ability to fund the proposal given the national debt of $40.1 trillion, stating, "I don't think we have the money for that."</p><p>Liz from Alexandria, Virginia, called the idea "absolute nonsense," adding, "I don't believe a word that man ever says," in reference to Trump. Another voter recalled previous promises made by Trump that did not materialize, saying, "Last time I remember he promised a stimulus and a couple other things. None of that happened."</p><p>Trump has claimed that the checks would be funded through tariff revenue, but the estimated cost of the proposal is around $1.2 trillion, which exceeds the revenue generated from Trump's tariff agenda.</p><p>Some voters, however, expressed support for the proposal, arguing that taxpayer dollars should benefit hardworking Americans. One supporter stated, "I think he's limiting it to American citizens and adults who work," adding, "We've given a hell of a lot of money to people who don't deserve it. It's about time hardworking citizens of America get the money they deserve."</p>
