PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp confirms no returning member program for LIV golfers

<p>The PGA Tour announced details of its new two-tiered competitive model set to debut in 2028 on September 15, 2026. CEO Brian Rolapp stated that LIV golfers will not be included in this model. The term "pathways" will be frequently discussed as players aim for spots in the upper-tier Championship Series, but it will not apply to those from the LIV Golf circuit.</p><p>Rolapp addressed the situation regarding LIV Golf and its players at the beginning of his press conference. He emphasized three key principles for participation in the PGA Tour: meritocracy, adherence to membership rules, and accountability and discipline, which he described as essential for maintaining the integrity of the Tour.</p><p>He stated, "As I said a few weeks ago in Atlanta, there are really three things when it comes to anyone who wants to compete on the PGA TOUR. One, the PGA TOUR is built on meritocracy. Every player, whether they are a member or want to become one, must earn their place. Two, we are a membership organization; we have rules, and those rules exist for lots of reasons, including fairness and competitive balance. Rules matter, and they must be enforced. Which brings me to number three, accountability and discipline. These are essential elements for any sports league and are certainly for the integrity of the PGA TOUR and the sport. It's what holds the TOUR together. Those are guiding principles for us. In terms of where we are today, we are not currently contemplating a returning-member program like the one you saw in January."</p><p>The Returning Member Program previously offered was available to former Tour members who won The Players or a major championship between 2022 and 2025. Brooks Koepka was the only player to utilize this opportunity, having won the 2023 PGA Championship.</p><p>In April, Rolapp indicated that Koepka’s situation would not set a precedent for other players wishing to return. Other LIV players who met the Returning Member Program criteria included Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, and Jon Rahm.</p><p>While there is no direct pathway from LIV to the PGA Tour, there may be alternative routes. The Tour's announcement regarding eligibility for 2028 mentioned potential access for top performers from the DP World Tour as part of ongoing discussions about the Strategic Alliance.</p><p>Current LIV golfers who choose to compete on the DP World Tour may face fines and other requirements, which could potentially allow them a route back to the PGA Tour.</p><p>The future of LIV Golf remains uncertain following its recent bankruptcy filing, which has raised questions about the league's viability.</p>
