<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/house-democrats/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">House Democrats</a> are expanding their target districts for the upcoming midterm elections by adding three congressional races in <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/alaska/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Alaska</a>, <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/michigan/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Michigan</a>, and <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/wisconsin/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Wisconsin</a> to the <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/dccc/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s</a> “Red to Blue” program.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The DCCC announced it is investing resources into challengers aiming to unseat GOP Representatives Nick Begich (R-AK), Tom Barrett (R-MI), and Bryan Steil (R-WI). With these additions, the total number of GOP districts targeted by the House Democrats’ campaign arm has increased to 40.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">DCCC Chairwoman Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-WA) stated, “The three candidates added to our Red to Blue program today represent the very best of their communities—unbought, practical leaders who know what it takes to win in tough districts.” She also noted that “the American people have soured on the GOP’s broken promises and failure to lower costs.”</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">House Democrats are supporting Democratic candidates Will Lawrence and Mitchell Berman in Michigan and Wisconsin, respectively, as well as independent candidate Bill Hill in Alaska.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Lawrence, founder of the progressive climate group Sunrise Movement, is challenging incumbent Barrett in Michigan’s 7th District. He is endorsed by lawmakers including Sen. <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/bernie-sanders/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bernie Sanders</a> (I-VT) and <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/ro-khanna/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ro Khanna</a> (D-CA) and is campaigning on issues such as healthcare for all and a federal data center moratorium.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><em>Cook Political Report</em> ranks Barrett’s district as a toss-up, with polls indicating a competitive race between Barrett and Lawrence.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Berman, a nurse, is running against incumbent Steil in Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District. His campaign focuses on raising the federal minimum wage and supporting affordable healthcare through restoring Obamacare subsidies. <em>Cook Political Report</em> currently lists the race as Likely Republican, with polling showing Steil in the lead or an even race.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In Alaska’s at-large House race, independent candidate Hill has advanced to the general election to face Begich, alongside Democratic candidate <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/campaigns/congressional/3153880/alaska-court-rejects-democratic-bid-incarcerated-eric-hafner-off-ballot/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Eric Hafner</a> and Libertarian Jim McDermott. Hill's campaign promotes a Democratic-leaning agenda focused on taxing billionaires and corporations, supporting fisheries, and reducing taxes for the middle class.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Begich’s district is still considered likely Republican, with polls generally favoring him.</p>
