The defeat came against a Cardinals team that many anticipated would struggle this season.

During a press conference on Monday, the 62-year-old coach reflected on the Chargers' preseason preparation, stating, "We made some preseason-type of mistakes. Now in retrospect, I wish we’d played our guys a little bit more in the preseason and given them those reps."

The Chargers had their starters play briefly in the second and third preseason games, which Harbaugh now believes was insufficient. Last season, the Cardinals, who finished with a 3-14 record, allowed an average of 20.9 points per game, ranking tied for 21st in the NFL, but performed better against the Chargers.

In the game, the Chargers' offense managed only two touchdowns, particularly struggling after losing wide receiver Ladd McConkey to an injury in the third quarter. Harbaugh noted that McConkey is day-to-day with a rib injury.

The Chargers were trailing by just two points when McConkey left the game and did not score afterward. The team also experienced a blocked punt, an interception, and a turnover on downs during the match. Harbaugh described the performance as "sloppy," saying, "Some uncharacteristic things happened. Give (the Cardinals) credit for making them happen. I would call it sloppy at times. Too sloppy. That’s something we need to get fixed."

The Chargers are scheduled to play the Las Vegas Raiders at home on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. EST.
