DEA Searches Hayden Panettiere's Home in Ongoing Investigation

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) searched Hayden Panettiere's Los Angeles home on August 25 as part of an investigation into a fatal oxycodone pill laced with fentanyl that she reportedly took. According to a source, the agents executed a search warrant looking for evidence related to black market controlled substances. Investigators were examining various drugs Panettiere may have been using to determine if any were laced with fentanyl. They were also searching for drug paraphernalia, including prescription medication and recreational drugs, to gain insight into her drug use and potential sources. The investigation reportedly includes a review of Panettiere's text conversations with an alleged drug dealer, which contain messages about purchasing black market pills. Law enforcement sources indicated that Panettiere had a long-time drug dealer in Los Angeles. Investigators believe she took the fatal pill on the morning of her death. Panettiere was found unresponsive on August 16 in a Greenville, South Carolina, Airbnb. Her official cause of death has not yet been released, but 911 audio indicated she was in cardiac arrest, and CPR was in progress for an overdose. A police report noted that she had a bag of medication at the time of her death. Following her passing, her boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, was involved in an alleged altercation at a bar in Greenville, where he was handcuffed by police but later released without charges.
