Trump Criticizes Federal Reserve Decision to Raise Interest Rates

The increase was implemented to address rising inflation.</p><p>In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, "Interest Rates in the United States should be 1%, or less, because we are the Best Credit in the World — BY FAR." He concluded his post with a demand to lower interest rates quickly.</p><p>Kevin Warsh, whom Trump nominated to replace Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve chair, confirmed the rate hike during a press briefing, stating the new rate is between 3.75 percent and 4 percent.</p><p>Trump had previously expressed a desire to replace Powell due to his reluctance to lower interest rates. Warsh, a longtime ally of Trump, was sworn in as chair in May.</p><p>During the briefing, Warsh emphasized the independence of the Federal Reserve, stating that the central bank operates independently of political influence.
