Chelsea Announces Clearlake Capital's Full Control as Todd Boehly's Chairmanship Ends

Chelsea Football Club announced that Clearlake Capital will acquire the stakes of Todd Boehly and director Mark Walter, marking the end of Boehly's chairmanship. The announcement was made late on Wednesday. Clearlake, led by co-founders Behdad Eghbali and Jose E Feliciano, previously owned 61.5 percent of the club after acquiring it from Roman Abramovich in May 2022. Boehly and Walter, who are also co-owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will receive approximately 950 million pounds ($1.27 billion) for their combined stakes, valuing the club at about five billion pounds, including debt. Chelsea stated that their ambition is to compete at the highest level and win major trophies. Xabi Alonso, Chelsea's head coach, expressed that the change in ownership is significant for the club and emphasized his positive relationship with Eghbali. Since the takeover, Chelsea's highest Premier League finish has been fourth in the 2024/25 season, during which they won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup. The team has had a mixed start to the current season, currently sitting sixth in the Premier League table.
