<p>Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY), a centrist from Long Island, is running advertisements that oppose extremism from both sides as the Democratic Party addresses the presence of socialist candidates in the 2026 elections.</p>
<p>Suozzi promoted the ad on X on Thursday morning, coinciding with socialist Twitch streamer Hasan Piker making headlines for comments about the United States. The advertisements depict Suozzi as a practical, bipartisan lawmaker, with him stating in the video, “I don’t work for parties. I work for you.”</p>
<p>“While the extremes fight for attention, I’m fighting for you. We must lower costs by cutting tariffs, ending the war, and slashing the debt,” Suozzi wrote on X, sharing a 15-second version of his anti-extremism ad.</p>
<p>Suozzi, who is co-chairman of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, is seeking his fifth full term in the U.S. House against Republican challenger state Rep. Mike LiPetri. Suozzi previously defeated LiPetri by 3.6 percentage points in New York’s 3rd Congressional District.</p>
<p>The race for New York’s 3rd District is categorized as “leans Democrat” by the Cook Political Report, which notes that it could potentially shift to a Toss Up status depending on Republican campaign investments.</p>
<p>LiPetri, endorsed by former President Donald Trump, won his primary by over 64 percentage points. He criticized Suozzi’s ad, labeling him as “classic ‘Two-Faced’ Tom Suozzi – campaigning as a moderate but voting with the DSA-wing of his party the first chance he gets.”</p>
<p>“‘Spineless’ Suozzi talks a big game on the campaign trail but always falls in line behind [Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY)], [Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)], and the [New York Mayor Zohran] Mamdani socialists,” LiPetri stated.</p>
<p>LiPetri referenced Suozzi’s vote against a House resolution condemning “socialism in all its forms” and the Democratic Socialists of America.</p>
<p>The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has emerged as a significant issue in the 2026 elections, with several DSA or DSA-backed candidates running in the general midterm elections.</p>
