Hasan Piker on Thursday responded to criticism after stating that the United States is worse than the al Qaeda terrorist network. He claimed that Republicans and "the elites" are terrorizing people using oppressive force.

Piker, a Twitch streamer, gained prominence this year as a supporter of Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul el Sayed and other candidates with socialist leanings. His recent comments on The Axios Show have sparked further controversy, leading to distancing from more moderate Democrats.

In response to the backlash from both Republicans and Democrats regarding his al Qaeda remarks, Piker defended himself on social media, stating that President “Donald Trump and the Republican Party are Epstein-class terrorists.”

Piker wrote, “Trump is murdering fishermen off the coastlines of South America, we continue to arm Israel’s belligerence, we are choking Cuba to death for no reason, we are terrorizing our own neighbors with an unaccountable gestapo force.” He also referred to the modern Republican Party as “Y’all Qaeda” and accused Trump of arming al Qaeda during his presidency.

Piker shared videos of Republican figures, including el Sayed’s GOP rival Mike Rogers, criticizing his comments. He stated, “I give a nuanced answer about acts of terror this admin has caused and they clickbait it.”

He elaborated, “We’ve armed al qaeda since 9/11, we made its former commander the president of syria.” Piker emphasized that “our elites terrorize the entire world while ordinary Americans continue to foot the bill,” criticizing the spending on military actions that he claims have led to more death and poverty.

Piker has faced backlash from some Democrats who worry that his controversial statements may harm the party's image in battleground areas like Michigan. However, he clarified that his primary goal is not merely to elect Democrats but to foster “class consciousness” in the U.S. through provocative statements.

In an MS Now Clock It interview, Piker expressed his desire to change perceptions of what America represents and to highlight the oppression faced by many Americans. He stated, “I’ve always wanted to foment class consciousness in America because I feel like a lot of people in the working class in this country don’t recognize themselves as being a part of the working class.”

Piker concluded that sometimes it is necessary to express beliefs that may not be popular, citing the pro-Palestine movement as an example of how advocacy can lead to a shift in public consciousness.
