Texas Longhorns co-defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen arrested for DWI

Johnny Nansen, the co-defensive coordinator for the Texas Longhorns, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly driving while intoxicated (DWI). The 52-year-old coach was involved in a three-car crash on an Austin, Texas roadway at approximately 8:55 p.m. and exhibited signs of intoxication at the scene, according to the Austin Police Department (APD). The police conducted field sobriety tests during their investigation, and the APD reported that Nansen showed "multiple clues of impairment." Nansen was arrested for DWI, classified as a Class B misdemeanor. He spent the night in jail and was released from custody on Thursday morning. Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian addressed the incident during a media availability on Thursday, describing it as "an unfortunate situation." Nansen did not attend the team's practice on Thursday, and his status for the Longhorns' upcoming game against UTSA has not yet been determined. Sarkisian stated, "We obviously are aware of the situation. I’m still gathering facts. I’m still monitoring the situation. We’re obviously disappointed, but that’s all I really have on that at this time." Nansen joined the Texas coaching staff in 2024 after previously coaching with Sarkisian at Washington and USC.
