Tourists Rescued After Being Trapped on Oregon Beach

A group of tourists was rescued from an Oregon beach after rising tides trapped them while they attempted to take a photo on Wednesday, according to authorities. The incident occurred at Lost Boy Beach in Tillamook County, which requires visitors to navigate a challenging path and cross through a sea cave to access the coast. The tourists were unaware that the incoming tide would prevent their exit. Tillamook Fire Chief Jeff McBrayer stated that authorities received the first call for assistance around 3:45 p.m. after one of the individuals managed to make an emergency 911 call using a satellite phone due to a lack of cell service. Rescuers deployed a drone to locate the stranded individuals, who had signaled for help by spelling out 'SOS' with sticks. Fire crews then made their way to the group, who were cold and wet, and assisted them in wading through the surf while wearing life vests before guiding them safely out of the cove. All three tourists sustained minor injuries but were otherwise unharmed. McBrayer expressed hope that this incident would encourage greater caution among those exploring Oregon's beaches.
