In the previous election cycle, Musk was heavily involved in the 2025 Wisconsin state Supreme Court race, where he contributed significant funds and made public appearances, but the conservative candidate ultimately lost by 10 points. Currently, Musk is supporting Republican candidates in midterm elections, including Texas, where Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton is competing against Democrat James Talarico. Reports indicate that Musk's financial support is becoming more influential in the race, but he has not yet engaged in public campaigning or events. Republican strategists express a desire for Musk to maintain a low profile to avoid drawing negative attention, as they believe Democrats could use his involvement against them. Conversely, Democrats are open to Musk's participation, viewing it as a potential advantage in framing the race around wealth and influence. Musk's political action committee, America PAC, has not disclosed its planned investment in Texas, but it has already spent nearly $5.2 million on campaign activities in the state. National Republican groups are also increasing their financial support for Paxton to counter Talarico's fundraising advantage, which saw Talarico with $21 million compared to Paxton's $1.7 million at the end of June. The overall financial landscape of the race is shifting in favor of Paxton as Republican funding increases.
