Three suspects have been arrested in South Africa related to the murder of Jabulile Ntimba, whose body was found by a roadside last Thursday in Dawn Park, east of Johannesburg. This case is part of a series of nine recent murders in the region that have raised concerns about violence against women in the country. Acting police chief Lt Gen Puleng Dimpane described the arrests of the man and two women as a "breakthrough" in the investigation. The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Police have noted that several victims in the recent cases were found partially clothed and with injuries, but they have not confirmed whether the deaths are connected or if a serial killer is involved. Deputy police chief Lt Gen Tebello Mosikili stated that a team of analysts is examining potential links between the cases, while suggesting that Ntimba's murder may be related to a personal relationship, possibly involving a love triangle.
South Africa has one of the highest rates of gender-based violence globally, with a high murder rate. Although official statistics do not specify the gender of murder victims, a recent estimate from the Human Rights Commission indicated that an average of six women were murdered daily between April and June of this year. The recent murders have prompted national outcry and heightened insecurity among women in the country.
