A female police officer, Fiona Anderson, 33, of Devon and Cornwall Police, is on trial for two counts of sexual assault that allegedly occurred in 2018 while she was off duty in Cardiff. The court heard that Anderson is accused of performing oral sex on another woman without consent and touching her intimate parts without consent. Anderson denies the charges.
The incidents reportedly took place while Anderson was visiting Cardiff. She was arrested and bailed in March 2023, and subsequently suspended by her police department. During the trial at Bristol Crown Court, the alleged victim testified that she told Anderson, 'I don't want to have sex with you,' but Anderson persisted. Prosecutor Emma Martin described Anderson as 'disgustingly drunk' on the night of the alleged offenses.
The jury was informed that Anderson allegedly became 'rougher' with the victim, who did not reciprocate any advances. Martin stated that Anderson told the complainant, 'I know the law, I need you to say yes.' The complainant expressed feeling unable to report the incident due to Anderson's position as a police officer.
In a video interview with police, the victim described feeling frozen and unable to respond to Anderson’s advances, stating, 'I just couldn't believe that was happening.' The complainant reported the alleged assault to police in March 2023 while discussing an unrelated incident at a pub. The trial is expected to continue for four days, with the complainant set to testify.
