Chargers Place Tight Ends David Njoku and Charlie Kolar on Injured Reserve

The Los Angeles Chargers have placed tight ends David Njoku and Charlie Kolar on injured reserve. Njoku was carted off during the Chargers' 26–14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders with a fibula injury, while Kolar is dealing with a forearm injury. Both players are expected to miss at least four games. Currently, the Chargers have only one tight end on their active roster, Oronde Gadsden II. The team may look to their practice squad, which includes tight ends Evan Svoboda and Patrick Herbert, who is the brother of quarterback Justin Herbert. The injuries impact an offense that relies on tight ends for blocking, and Gadsden has been noted to struggle in that role. Njoku has recorded eight receptions for 67 yards this season, while Kolar has three receptions for 21 yards. Additionally, five players from the Chargers' free agent class have been sidelined with injuries. Njoku and Kolar are on injured reserve, defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and left guard Kayode Awosika are out indefinitely, and center Tyler Biadasz suffered a season-ending injury during training camp. The Chargers are currently 0–2 after consecutive home losses to the Arizona Cardinals and Raiders. They are facing a challenging matchup against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3.
