ARLINGTON, Texas — Francisco Alvarez had a notable performance for the Mets on Tuesday night, contributing to a 6-3 victory against the Rangers at Globe Life Field. This marked his third consecutive multihit game, which included a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth inning.
Alvarez entered the game with a .680 OPS since the All-Star break. He had shown improvement over the weekend with a three-run homer that helped secure a win against the Phillies, followed by two hits the next day. On Tuesday, he finished the game with two hits in five at-bats.
“I started working more on staying back and trying to make contact deeper if I can,” Alvarez stated regarding his recent performance.
When asked about the remaining days in the season, Alvarez replied, “I don’t know — there are still five days left. Maybe on the last day if you ask me the same question, I can tell you.”
Sean Manaea pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out nine and walking two. He is expected to make another start in the finale against Washington on Sunday.
The Mets' rally in the sixth inning began with a pinch-hit double from Brett Baty, followed by a walk to Carson Benge. Alvarez then hit a double off the left field fence, scoring both runners, and Luis Torrens added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-3.
“It’s just good to see [Alvarez] be himself,” said manager Andy Green. “Every season some people go through some tough stretches. Our goal will be to shrink those and get back to the best version quicker in the future.”
