Xi Jinping Arrives in Washington for Summit with President Trump

<p>China's President Xi Jinping arrived in the United States on Wednesday for a summit with President Donald Trump. The meeting is expected to address various contentious issues, including artificial intelligence, trade practices, and China's support for Iran. This marks Xi's first visit to Washington in over a decade.</p><p>The two-day summit officially begins on Thursday morning, following a State Arrival Ceremony at Joint Base Andrews, which will feature 479 military personnel. Discussions will likely include tariff reductions on non-strategic goods, rare-earth exports, and export controls. Trump is also expected to urge China to take action against fentanyl precursor chemical exports.</p><p>Trump plans to advocate for the release of Gulshan Abbas, an American detained in China for eight years, accused of terrorism after her sister criticized China's treatment of Uyghurs. House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republicans have expressed confidence in Trump's efforts for her release.</p><p>First Lady Melania Trump is scheduled to accompany Peng Liyuan, Xi's wife, to the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art. The day will conclude with a state dinner featuring notable guests from the technology sector, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, SpaceX founder Elon Musk, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.</p><p>During a recent address at the United Nations General Assembly, Trump emphasized American leadership in artificial intelligence, stating, "Whoever wins superintelligence wins." He noted that the U.S. is currently ahead of China in this area.</p><p>In May, Trump traveled to Beijing, where he and Xi agreed to a trade truce, pausing tariff disputes for non-strategic goods. This agreement included commitments from China to purchase additional American agricultural products and aircraft from Boeing.</p>
