John Torra, a 23-year-old singer from Massapequa, Long Island, has been named the new frontman for the heavy metal band Quiet Riot after successfully auditioning against over 700 applicants. Torra shared his audition video on Instagram, performing three of the band's popular songs, which caught the attention of the band’s management.
Regina Banali, the band's manager and widow of former drummer Frankie Banali, stated, "We saw your comments, tags, and messages urging us to bring him on board. But what earned John the gig was his undeniable talent." She added that Torra's performance was exceptional, bringing a fresh sound to the band's music.
Torra had previously been the lead singer for the New Jersey-based band Fire ‘N Ice while awaiting confirmation from Quiet Riot. He submitted his application on July 15, showcasing his renditions of “Cum on Feel the Noize,” “Metal Health (Bang your Head),” and “Run for Cover.”
Quiet Riot announced that Torra will join current members Rudy Sarzo, Alex Grossi, and Johnny Kelly for their upcoming tour, which begins on October 1 in West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma. The tour will include performances across the United States, Mexico, and South America, concluding in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Quiet Riot was formed in 1973 and is known for being the first heavy metal band to reach #1 on the Billboard pop charts. The band has released 14 studio albums and sold over 15 million records worldwide. Torra will continue to perform with Fire ‘N Ice when not engaged with Quiet Riot, as confirmed by the New Jersey band.
