Mayor Mamdani Criticized for Lack of Comments on Iranian President's Visit

<p>New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has been criticized for not commenting on Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly, despite previously labeling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "war criminal." Mamdani has described the Iranian government as "brutal" and has spoken about its repression of its own citizens.</p><p>Critics, including Iranian-born journalist Masih Alinejad, have pointed out the inconsistency in Mamdani's rhetoric. Alinejad, who survived an assassination attempt, urged Mamdani to take action against Pezeshkian, stating, "If you have the courage to talk about arresting those responsible for crimes against humanity, start with the man sleeping five miles from your office," referring to Pezeshkian.</p><p>Director of National Intelligence Walter "Jay" Clayton has stated that the Iranian regime has been involved in assassination plots against those opposing it, including Alinejad. He noted that the Iranian government is a sponsor of terrorism and has engaged in campaigns targeting dissidents.</p><p>Mamdani has previously stated that Netanyahu is not welcome in New York City and has called him an "architect" of genocide, but no similar statements regarding Pezeshkian have been reported. Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani for comment.</p><p>National security expert Brigitte Gabriel also criticized Mamdani for his lack of comments on Pezeshkian's presence in New York, highlighting the ongoing conflict with Iran and questioning why Pezeshkian was granted a visa and a platform at the UN.</p><p>Israeli U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon has urged Mamdani to focus on issues within New York City rather than attacking Israel and engaging with the Iranian regime. He stated, "Focus on the problems of the City of New York and stop with promoting anti-Semitism, stop supporting Hamas, and stop engaging with the Iranian regime."</p><p>Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Tom Cotton also expressed concern over Mamdani's rhetoric, questioning why he targets Israel while ignoring the actions of the Iranian government.</p><p>Following a meeting with President Donald Trump, Mamdani reiterated that he and Trump hold differing views on Israel and the conflict with Iran.</p>
