<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ukrainian President <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/volodymyr-zelensky/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Volodymyr Zelensky</a> warned world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly that <a href="http://washingtonexaminer.com/tag/artificial-intelligence/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">artificial intelligence</a> could begin making military decisions as early as next year.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Zelensky addressed the assembly on Wednesday, referencing a statement from former President Donald Trump regarding Russia's control over its diesel oil industry. He stated, "It’s hard to imagine a more humiliating loss for a country that has a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council and takes so much pride in its oil exports." He also agreed with Trump’s assertion that the ongoing war in Ukraine must be resolved.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Zelensky noted that he did not know of any world leader who would disagree with the need for peace, except for Russian President <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/vladimir-putin/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Vladimir Putin</a>, who was absent from the assembly.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">During his speech, Zelensky claimed that Russia has suffered approximately 248,000 casualties while capturing 1,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory this year, averaging 248 casualties per square kilometer.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">He expressed concern over the rapid development of AI-powered weapons, stating, "We need to slow it down before we reach the next stage because as early as next year, there is already a real possibility that AI — not only people — will begin deciding what happens on the battlefield. And we need peace before we reach that point."</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Zelensky mentioned two Russian allies, North Korea and China, in his address. He reported that two North Korean prisoners of war have been transferred to South Korea for detention and interrogation, labeling North Korea as a negative influence in Russia’s invasion.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Regarding China, Zelensky expressed disappointment that Chinese leader <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/xi-jinping/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Xi Jinping</a> did not attend the General Assembly, believing he could influence the Kremlin.</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Zelensky stated, "Unfortunately, we have not had a chance to speak directly with the leader of China, who is in America today but not here. And he is someone who can influence Russia too — more than many, many others can."</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Xi is in Washington, D.C. for a summit with Trump that will last until Friday, where they are expected to discuss various issues including trade agreements and military support for Taiwan.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Trump may use the opportunity to seek Xi's assistance in ending the Russian invasion, suggesting during his own U.N. address that the conflict could end "more quickly than people understand."</p>
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Xi has maintained a neutral stance regarding Russia's war, positioning himself as a potential peacemaker without placing sole responsibility on the Kremlin.</p>
