Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexual assault

Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in Manhattan for a felony sex crime involving former TV production assistant Miriam Haley. This sentencing concludes over six years of legal battles following Weinstein's initial conviction for sexual assault, which was overturned by New York’s highest court in 2024. A retrial last year resulted in a guilty verdict against Weinstein, who was once a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. He is now 74 years old and is expected to appeal the sentence, maintaining his claim that he never raped or sexually assaulted anyone. Following the sentencing, Weinstein was quickly moved out of the courtroom while some of his accusers expressed their emotions. Haley, who provided a victim impact statement, spoke about the public humiliation she faced and described her experience as a life sentence. Weinstein has been incarcerated since his 2018 arrest and is currently in a prison medical ward. His legal troubles also include a separate rape case in Los Angeles, for which he is awaiting resentencing.
