Kansas Senate Nominee Adam Hamilton Requests Kamala Harris Not to Campaign in Kansas

<p>Kansas Democratic Senate nominee Rev. Adam Hamilton stated on MS NOW on Wednesday that former Vice President Kamala Harris should refrain from campaigning for him in Kansas. This statement followed Harris's recent campaign visit to Michigan for Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, as Hamilton aims to gain support in the Republican-leaning state.</p><p>When asked if he would welcome Harris to campaign alongside him, Hamilton declined the offer. "No, I would not," he said. "No offense intended for her but she would not be help to me. We are a different kind of Democrat … I mean no offense to Kamala Harris … Please do not come to my state. I do not need you here. You would actually hurt me," Hamilton added.</p><p>The Republican National Committee (RNC) responded to Hamilton's remarks, accusing him of trying to distance himself from Harris while suggesting that their political records align. RNC spokesman Zach Kraft stated, "From demonizing Christians to wanting to ban ranching in a Green New Deal, Adam Hamilton has been in lockstep with Kamala Harris' radical left-wing agenda his entire life. Kansans will reject Hamilton just like they rejected his best friend Kamala Harris in 2024."</p><p>Hamilton, who is the pastor of the Church of Resurrection, won a competitive Democratic primary in August and is challenging Republican Senator Roger Marshall, who is seeking a second term. He has positioned himself as an independent-minded Democrat, emphasizing the need to appeal beyond the party's base. During a CNN appearance last week, Hamilton noted that national Democratic figures could be liabilities in Kansas due to the state's significant Republican electorate.</p><p>Hamilton mentioned that his congregation includes a mix of Republicans, Democrats, and independents, arguing that Kansas voters might support a Democrat who distances themselves from certain national party elements. "I think there are a number of national Democrats that actually would be a liability in Kansas," he said. "I think Kansans are independent-minded, and we've got 45 percent of our state are Republicans and I need those Republicans."</p><p>In the 2024 election, President Donald Trump defeated Harris in Kansas with 57.16% of the vote compared to her 41.04%, according to the Kansas Secretary of State.</p><p>Hamilton's comments came shortly after Harris campaigned with El-Sayed in Detroit, where they discussed Black maternal health and healthcare costs. Harris publicly supported El-Sayed during this event and later spoke to Democratic voters at an NAACP gathering.</p><p>Republicans have also targeted Hamilton's past sermons. Vice President JD Vance has criticized Hamilton's religious and political views while campaigning for Republicans. The RNC's criticism aligns with a broader Republican strategy that includes a sermon from Hamilton in 2020 on climate change, which has been used in advertisements to portray him negatively.</p><p>Despite these challenges, Hamilton has recently supported legislation that benefits agriculture, including a Senate committee farm bill, and has criticized Democratic senators who opposed it, according to a report from the Kansas Reflector.</p><p>Kansas has not elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since 1932, making Hamilton's outreach to Republican and independent voters crucial for his campaign against Marshall.</p><p>Fox News Digital reached out to both Hamilton and Harris for comments, but did not receive an immediate response.</p>
