Discord Implements New Age Verification System Following User Feedback

<p>Discord is implementing an age-verification system that estimates users' ages and requires some individuals to verify their age to access age-restricted content. The company stated that the global rollout of this system will take a few days to reach all user accounts.</p><p>In February, Discord announced a different plan for age checks but decided to abandon it due to user backlash regarding privacy concerns. These concerns were intensified by a 2025 incident where hackers stole government IDs of 70,000 Discord users from a third-party service used for age verification in the UK and Australia.</p><p>The original plan involved requiring users to upload identification or undergo face scans to access age-restricted servers and channels. The revised system, as detailed by Discord CTO and co-founder Stanislav Vishnevskiy, will offer several additional options.</p>
