Sanders argued that the United States is the only major country that does not guarantee healthcare, stating that many individuals suffer due to lack of access and affordability.</p><p>When pressed by Sanders on the issue, Overton emphasized the importance of access to healthcare and expressed her commitment to fulfilling the FDA's responsibilities as mandated by Congress.</p><p>Sanders reiterated his question, referencing his proximity to Canada, where he noted that all citizens have access to medical care. Overton responded that she understands the significance of access to care and aims to ensure patients receive the best care possible.</p><p>As the discussion progressed, Sanders shifted the topic to prescription drug prices, asking Overton if she believed President Trump was truthful in stating that the U.S. had reduced its drug prices significantly. Overton mentioned that 89% of branded drugs are covered by agreements aimed at lowering prices for U.S. consumers.</p><p>She cited that the most-favored nation policies have contributed to a decrease in prescription drug prices, which, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), have declined by 3% for the first time in 60 years. Sanders contested the reasons behind this decline, suggesting it may be linked to previous legislation.</p><p>The broader discussion surrounding Medicare-for-all and government-run healthcare proposals continues as the midterm elections approach.</p>
