Man Arrested After Being Found in Children's Bedroom in McGregor, Texas

<p>A couple in McGregor, Texas, discovered a naked man hiding in their children's bedroom early on September 15. The father was alerted by his wife and found 28-year-old David Refugio Lopez, a Mexican national, in the closet near his children, who were also unclothed.</p><p>When police arrived, they found the father blocking Lopez in the closet. Lopez was allowed to dress before authorities took him into custody. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Lopez entered the United States illegally in 2002 as a child and initially withheld his identity from the police, resulting in an additional charge.</p><p>The arrest affidavit indicated that the daughter had let Lopez into the house without parental consent and stated that there had been no sexual contact. Lopez faces charges including two counts of indecency with a child, exposure, burglary of a habitation, and failure to identify. He is currently held in the McLennan County Jail on a $60,000 bond.</p><p>Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detainer for Lopez, requesting that local authorities transfer him to federal custody for deportation upon his release. A Homeland Security spokesperson stated, "We are calling on Texas to honor our detainer. All of his claims will be heard by an immigration judge, and he will receive due process. This administration will not ignore the rule of law." The spokesperson also noted that under the previous administration, ICE focused on serious offenders, emphasizing that illegal entry and lawbreaking would lead to arrest and deportation.</p>
