<p>A nurse is accused of abusing a prematurely born 4-month-old baby girl at a Michigan hospital, resulting in broken bones and bruises, including injuries to her tongue, according to reports.</p><p>Kieran Ansley, 43, was terminated from Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids and is facing multiple counts of child abuse.</p><p>The infant, born four months premature, had been making progress after spending months in the ICU and was expected to be discharged in April, as reported by WOOD-TV.</p><p>Robert Steavens, the girl's grandfather, stated, "She was born at 23 weeks — 1 pound, 1 ounce. And she made it through her due date, ready to go home. And then, two days before she was ready to go home, this happened."</p><p>The child's mother visited on April 2 and noticed Ansley approaching to inform them that the infant had "slept through the night." Court records indicate that the mother observed the infant's tongue was "blue and black" and that there were several new bruises.</p><p>According to court documents, Ansley claimed to have "seen this in the past, and it was not a big deal." During the investigation, a hospital staff member described Ansley as "flustered" and "a little bit frustrated" that night, with others noting he appeared "heated" and "overwhelmed."</p><p>A staff log from the night of the alleged abuse recorded 32 instances of someone entering the baby’s room, with Ansley being responsible for 27 of those visits, according to the news station.</p><p>Fox News Digital contacted Ansley's attorney and the hospital for comments. Defense attorney Damian Nunzio stated that Ansley has been cooperative during the investigation, has spent "many years" working with ICU patients, and is a "very good person." He expressed confidence that their investigation would reveal the truth.</p><p>Ansley, who was released on bond, is scheduled to appear in court on November 10 and was fired following the allegations. The child, now 10 months old, is at home and "doing wonderful," according to Steavens. He added, "We’ve been blessed, and we’ve watched the baby grow. We’re trusting in God and healing as a family and trusting the process will move forward."</p>
