Florida Congressman Proposes Bill Requiring Warrants for License Plate Camera Data Access

<p>Representative Greg Steube of Florida has introduced the Facilitating Liberty and Accountability for Flock Observations (Flafo) Act, which would mandate that federal agencies obtain warrants before accessing or sharing data from networked license plate readers, such as those provided by Flock Safety. This legislation comes in response to growing concerns regarding surveillance practices.</p><p>The Flafo Act, introduced on September 25, 2026, would require a judicial warrant for federal agencies to purchase, operate, access, or share data from license plate cameras. Additionally, it would condition grants from the U.S. Department of Justice to local police departments on their agreement to implement similar warrant requirements.</p>
