Xi Jinping and Donald Trump Discuss Productive State Visit

<p>Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the level of "perfection" during his state visit to the White House, while President Donald Trump described the meetings as "very productive". Trump made these comments on Friday as he and First Lady Melania Trump hosted Xi and China's First Lady, Madame Peng Liyuan, for tea at the White House.</p><p>Trump stated, "we've had a tremendous visit from two spectacular people," adding, "we've made great strides, very positive for both countries." In response, Xi, through a translator, expressed gratitude, saying, "I want to thank the honorable president and the first lady for everything they've done for myself and my wife during this visit. Everything is down to the highest order of perfection. There is thought in every little detail. And it's greatly appreciated."</p><p>Xi further commented on the relationship between China and the U.S., stating, "The president and I are like two people that's charting the course for the great ship of China, U.S. relations." He noted that during Trump's visit to China in May, they agreed on a vision for a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability, and this visit added new substance to that relationship.</p><p>Xi mentioned he would have two more opportunities to meet Trump this year, first at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in China in November, and then at the G20 Summit in December at Trump's Doral resort in Miami, Florida.</p><p>Trump remarked, "A lot of very positive things happened. But, America is very happy about this visit and I'm sure China is very happy also. Great things for both countries. And it's been just very, very productive."</p><p>Xi arrived in Washington on Wednesday evening for the summit, four months after the two leaders reached a significant agreement that included Chinese commitments on rare earths, agricultural purchases, trade, and investment.</p><p>Trump hailed that agreement as a breakthrough for American farmers, manufacturers, and workers. However, the latest discussions occurred amid uneven progress on commitments regarding rare-earth minerals, agricultural and commercial purchases, trade, and investment, while key disputes over tariffs, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, intellectual property, and Taiwan remain unresolved.</p><p>Trump later stated on Truth Social, "President Xi and Madam Peng have just left D.C., heading for China. The meeting was one of Friendship, Strength, and Success, for both China and the U.S.A. Much has been, and will be, accomplished. I look forward to our next meeting!"</p>
