Suspect Charged with Murder of UMass Dartmouth Football Player Identified as Nigerian National

<p>Chukwunonso David Uzoma-Eze, a 19-year-old Nigerian national, has been charged with the murder of a UMass Dartmouth football player following a stabbing incident near a Providence, Rhode Island, nightclub early Saturday morning. The incident resulted in the death of 18-year-old Marvins Antoine, who was one of two victims hospitalized after the altercation.</p><p>The stabbing occurred in a Wendy's parking lot across from Mezzo Lounge, according to Providence police. Uzoma-Eze, who is also a student at UMass Dartmouth, was arrested on campus, as reported by WPRI.</p><p>Uzoma-Eze had been in the United States illegally after overstaying his B-2 tourist visa, which he entered the country under in 2015. Federal law enforcement sources indicated that he was shielded from deportation by multiple administrations, including a deferred action request approved by the Biden administration in September 2022.</p><p>In August 2023, he applied for a work permit, but it was rejected the following month. He submitted a second deferred action request in February 2025 and a third in October 2025, which was granted by the Trump administration. A subsequent work permit application based on his deferred action is still pending.</p><p>Uzoma-Eze now faces a murder charge related to the stabbing. If convicted, he would lose his protections from deportation. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer with the Bristol County House of Correction and is expected to transfer him to Rhode Island to face the murder charges.</p><p>On Friday, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey did not respond to a reporter's question regarding Uzoma-Eze's immigration status as she left an event.</p>
