CNN Barred from Traveling with Trump on Air Force One to Tennessee

US broadcaster CNN has been prohibited from traveling with President Donald Trump on Air Force One for a trip to Tennessee scheduled for Saturday. This decision follows ongoing tensions between the White House and various media outlets. CNN was initially set to accompany Trump for his visit to a college American football game, but a note released by the White House on Friday night did not include CNN in the media schedule. The BBC has requested a comment from the White House regarding this decision. CNN noted that no other outlet was listed as a replacement in the president's tentative schedule. Last week, Trump had barred journalists from CNN, Politico, and MS NOW from the White House, accusing them of publishing “fiction or lies” about his administration. The affected media outlets have indicated they are pursuing legal action, claiming violations of their constitutional rights to free speech and freedom of the press. In response, four television networks that regularly cover the White House—ABC, CBS, Fox News, and NBC—paused their broadcasts of the president in solidarity with the banned outlets. Subsequently, the White House launched its own streaming channel, Trump TV, ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. A federal judge has ruled that Trump's ban on certain news outlets from the White House was likely unconstitutional, requiring the administration to allow them back in, at least temporarily. However, some CNN and MS NOW reporters were still denied entry to cover arrivals for a state dinner for Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Thursday. A White House communications account previously stated on X that “contrary to what the Fake News wants you to believe, they don't just get to have free rein into every part of the White House, every event, and every press call.” Regular US television coverage resumed on Friday after White House officials permitted reporters' entry. The president is scheduled to attend a football game between the University of Tennessee and the University of Texas at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville from midday on Saturday.
