Dan Aykroyd recounts stealing police motorcycles during 'Ghostbusters' filming

Dan Aykroyd shared that he and his 'Ghostbusters' co-star Bill Murray once took two police motorcycles for a joyride in Central Park. Aykroyd stated that they 'appropriated' the motorcycles from the set of 'Ghostbusters II' during its filming in 1988-89 and rode them around the park at night. He mentioned this in an Instagram post celebrating Murray's 76th birthday, sharing photos of their friendship. Aykroyd noted that there were no consequences for their actions, humorously adding, 'After all, we were Ghostbusters.' Aykroyd, 74, praised Murray as 'the greatest comedy leading man of our time.' The two comedians first met in the 1970s and both were part of the original cast of 'Saturday Night Live.' They starred together in the 1984 film 'Ghostbusters' and reunited for its sequel in 1989. After the death of Harold Ramis in 2014, Aykroyd, Murray, and Ernie Hudson made cameos in the 2016 reboot and reprised their roles in 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' in 2021 and 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire' in 2024. Hudson mentioned in March that Murray often calls him unexpectedly. Aykroyd has expressed a preference for living in Canada over Hollywood in recent years, stating that he drives 'very carefully' in Los Angeles and refers to late-night hours spent in his gated community as 'prison hours.'
