Patrick Herbert Set for NFL Debut with Chargers Against Bills

Patrick Herbert, younger brother of Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, has been elevated from the practice squad and is set to make his NFL debut against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. This decision follows a series of injuries to the Chargers' tight ends, including David Njoku, who has been placed on injured reserve due to a fibula injury. Although Charlie Kolar was initially expected to go on injured reserve after injuring his left forearm, the team opted not to place him on IR. Kolar will not be active for the game. Earlier this week, Oronde Gadsden II was the only healthy tight end for the Chargers before the team signed Hayden Rucci from the Jaguars' practice squad on Tuesday. With Patrick Herbert's elevation, the Chargers will have three active tight ends for the matchup. Patrick signed with the Chargers' practice squad earlier this month after spending the preseason with the Jaguars. He spent his rookie season in Jacksonville last year but did not play in any games. Both brothers attended the University of Oregon, where they played together during the 2019 season. Justin was a standout quarterback that year, while Patrick, a true freshman, had limited playing time. The two have never connected on a pass in college, so if they do so on Sunday, it would mark their first completion since high school. However, the Chargers, currently 0-2, will prioritize securing a win over personal milestones.
